Ukko Restaurant in Bryanston

Our Dining Experience at Ukko Restaurant at Nicolway Bryanston

Ukko Restaurant in Bryanston is the new kid on the block (not soo new anymore), and it was in the list of new places to try our for bae and I. It is at Nicolway Bryanston, and with tapas, sushi, seafood and a good selection of beverages, we were excited to experience it and find out what the hype is about.

Ukko Bryanston: First Impression

We did Ukko during the week, midday on a Wednesday, and as soon as we got there, the vibe was beautiful. we didn’t have a reservation, but we managed to get the table that we wanted by the windows. It is a stylish meditarrenean restaurant, that is meant to give one a unique dining experience, and we were excited for that.

The space is beautiful, stylish and modern with beautiful finishes and design, but cosy at the same time.

Our waiter was friendly, as he greeted us and ushered to our preferred table, and a lady who seemed to be the manager also came to greet us and make sure that were taken care of.

Ukko Bryanston: Food & Drinks

With their extensive wine list and mixology bar, we were keen to order something different from our usual cider and merlot. I chose a cocktail, the mikael (made of Johnnie Walker black, blue curacan, pomegranate syrup, lemon juice and soda water), bae had a cuppacino, which looked really pretty.

After we ordered our drinks, our waiter brought us some edamame beans to nibble on.

For food, we ordered the Roasted Bone Marrow Pangrattato with red onions, parsley and toasted sourdough  (this was mostly for the gram/content creation), Fresh mussels steamed in white wine, herb butter, garlic and tomato. As people who love chicken wings, we had to get the grilled chicken wings and chips.

The mussels were surprisingly good, the tomato based sauce didn’t disappoint. A tomato based sauce was a first for us, so we didn’t know what to expect, but we were definitely pleasantly surprised. Would definitely recommend this if you love mussels.

The chicken wings with chips didn’t disappoint either, we really enjoyed the crispy chips, so much so that we wanted to order more. Even though the roasted bone marrow pangrattato was for the gram, bae and I had a bit of it and found it to be too rich, just as the waiter had explained to us.

Overall, we enjoyed the food and definitely wish we had ordered the crispy prawns, but that will be for another day.

We didn’t do dessert, as we were already full . . . and it’s something we are looking forward to doing the next time we visit Ukko.

Ukko Bryanston: The Service

In all honestly, their service was stellar.  From the time we were met at the entrance, seated at our table, ordered our drinks and food, our waiter was amazing.

He explained every cocktail and dish that we asked about in detail, and was very knowledgeable about them. Our drinks and food were brought to us in a timely manner, and we never waited to be served, or felt like our waiter disappeared on us.

Even better, he served us with a smile the entire time we were there.

Final Thoughts

We had a great experience at Ukko Restaurant in Bryanston, great food and great service.

We will definitely be doing Ukko again, with completely different cocktails and dishes., we are looking to trying the prawns, lamb riblets and the sushi. . . we will keep you posted!
