74 Visa Free Countries for South African Passport Holders
If you have ever had issues while applying for a Visa, you will do a sigh of relief to learn that South Africans can travel to many countries without a visa.
According to the VisaGuide Password Index, the South African Visa ranks number 98 in the world, which means that there are 74 countries that we can visit without having to apply for a visa. As for the rest of the countries like Germany, Spain, the US and more, South Africans will not be granted access without one.
Where Can South African Passport Holders Travel to Without a Visa in 2024?
As of January 2024, South African passport holders can travel visa free to these 74 countries and territories:

Back in 2023, we were able to travel to 106 countries without a visa, this means that there has been a shift and now we can only travel to 74 countries.
If you have ever had to travel to Germany, for example, you can appreciate being able to travel to certain countries without having to apply for a visa. That is just because they make the visa application seriously painful, and your visa can still be denied for a number of things.
What makes this even worse, is that securing an appointment for your visa is costly, for most South Africans, so you would want to make sure that when you make the appointment, that you do some research about what is required, and have all the documents that are needed.
The fact that you are reading this article tells us that you are into travel, and that you do have a desire to travel in the year 2024 and beyond, and I don’t blame you. Some of our fondest memories were made while travelling, nothing really beats seeing beautiful places, experiencing different cultures and of course enjoying delicious cuisine.
So while South Africa might not have the strongest passport, we still have amazing places that we can travel to and experience.

Macau, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia are some of the counties that South Africans can enjoy without the headache of getting a visa.
If you know anything about Thailand, for example, you will know that it is stunning and so much fun. The culture, the islands, the beaches . . . it is a travellers dream. Phuket especially is the spot and is very popular, the boat excursions there are breathtaking, and if you are into snorkelling or scuba diving, you are going to love this place.
And there’s also Mauritius, which is stunning, and South Africans just cannot resist it. The beaches are stunning, and who can resist the beautiful beaches, the ocean and the clear white sands.
If you are thinking of travelling, make sure that you do your research and know what to expect in the country of your choice. Draw up a checklist if you need to, so that you don’t miss anything important and you don’t forget anything.
Make sure that you have photocopies of important documents that you may need, rather have more copies than not.
As you travel, make sure that your loved ones know your whereabouts, and your plans. Things can happen during travel, the last thing that you want is to get them worried about you or about where you are.
