The Treehouse at Rosemary Hill Farm – A Review

A Romantic Treehouse Baecation in Rosemary Hill, just outside Pretoria

Our 3rd year anniversary was fast approaching, and given that it is a huge milestone for us that needed to be celebrated, we wanted to celebrate it in a special kind of way. And what came to mind is Rosemary Hill, just about an hour off Johannesburg.

Rosemary Hill Farm have just introduced their stunning treehouses, right next to the Greenhouse café, perched among the trees. Our anniversary fell during the week, so the day before our anniversary, we packed a bag and off we went to experience these new treehouses.

Before we knew it, we were at Rosemary Hill, ready to check in and start celebrating our love story and the memories that we had made since we met back in 2020.

We were super excited, after all, we were going to spend two days at this amazing farm, that has all that we needed to make our time away special and memorable. I am talking sumptuous food, great wine and outdoor activities like hiking, horse riding, and segway tours all in one place.

Treehouse 1 at Rosemary Hill Farm

Our first impression of the treehouse, was that of excitement .  .  . our treehouse was stunning, chic and modern. The art on the wall really transformed the space, and as compact as the space was, the treehouse was still big enough for 2 people.

We immediately noticed the large window, which gives one the view of the forest outside, and the massive sunlight that was piercing through to our treehouse through the trees.

And right outside, is a large luxurious chill net, which is what we were most excited about, as the thought of spending hours together on it became a reality. We knew we would be sipping some nice things on it, and possibly do a cheers to commemorate our special day, and toast to many more while we enjoy the view of the forest and the sunset.

The treehouse also had a huge deck, with chairs to relax on.

The treehouse, just like the Huddle, Cabinville and many of the accommodation at Rosemary Hill Farm is self-catering, so we had a fully equipped kitchenette to prepare or warm whatever meal we wanted to. This included a mini fridge, a microwave, a gas stove, a kettle, pots and pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery.

The treehouse also had a boma area, to get that warm fire burning, for those cold nights.

When you book a stay at the farm, you get a complimentary breakfast between 7:30 – 9:30 am. The Egg Benedict is a must have for breakfast, it is the best best egg benedict I have ever had.

We even managed to enjoy brunch at the Greenhouse Café, where I opted for the Beef Burger & Shoestring Fries, and given that my partner loves pasta, she opted for the Tagliatelle Alla Carbonara, which is served with a creamy cheese sauce with bacon.

The farm is also equipped with a shared swimming pool and self-catering bar available for use by all guests, this is situated at The Village and can be accessed by all guests at the farm.

  • The Treehouse Cost per night: R2650
  • Check-in: 2 pm
  • Check-out: 10 am

Activities at Rosemary Hill

Rosemary Hill offers great activities that you can enjoy when you choose a staycation at the farm.

These include horse riding, hiking, Sedway tours, and more, which you can enjoy as a couple.

If love is in the air, you definitely want to book one of their picnic baskets to enjoy with your lover, as you take in the beauty that is the farm. You can book the picnic baskets here.

Having done Rosemary Hill Farm before, we thoroughly enjoyed the horse riding, the hiking and the Sedway tour, as it allows you to explore the farm. All these activities come highly recommended.

You can also do wine tasting at the farm, which is done by Latebloomer Wines, at the The Bush Vines Winery & Bar, bookings for this is done at the Greenhouse café, which is very close to the treehouses.

Wine Tasting at The Bush Vines Winery & Bar

We indulged in a delectable wine tasting experience at The Bush Vine Winery and Bar, where we had the pleasure of sampling four exquisite wines perfectly paired with luxurious Lindt chocolates.

These were:

#Savignon Blanc

#Rose

#Fanie’s Fusion (My baby’s fav)

#Sav Semillion

Our journey began straight after our brunch, when we got welcomed by the sommelier who guided us through a curated selection of wines.

Each pour was a sensory delight, offering a harmonious balance of flavors and aromas that danced on our palates. The wines, ranging from crisp whites to full-bodied reds, were expertly complemented by the luscious Lindt chocolates, elevating the tasting experience to new heights.

The wine tasting was done in the outdoor area at the Greenhouse café, which provided the perfect ambiance.

This experience left us with a deep appreciation for the artistry of winemaking and the sheer pleasure of indulging in exceptional wine and chocolate pairings.

Why We Love Rosemary Hill Farmstays

My partner and I have done Rosemary Hill for a few times, and there’s obviously a reason for that. It never gets old, and it never gets boring.

If you are looking to just be far away from the city, to connect with your person or spend time with friends or family . . . this farm has something for everyone. If you want your staycation to be packed with activities, there’s plenty to do.

If your idea of a staycation is that of relaxation, and taking it easy, you can enjoy that as well.

It is very rare to find a place that has so much to offer, but still have the tranquility that most of us are looking for when we get out of the city, away from the hustle, and this is one of the things that makes this farm stand out from the other places.

Another thing that makes this farm amazing, is the people and the service. From their seamless check-in process, to the little touches in the rooms i.e we got brownies on the bed, in addition to rusks and cookies by our tea section.

And the staff are just so friendly, and helpful.

And it’s definitely the reason why it is in the Top 7 Romantic Weekend Getaways in Gauteng, because not only is it stunning, one can’t help but fall in love with it.
