Thousands March in South Africa’s 1st Pride since COVID-19 & Despite Terror Attack Warning
The Johannesburg Pride happened on Saturday . . . and I am super excited because more than 3000 people marched in Sandton since the Covid 19 pandemic. More importantly, thousands marched despite terror attack warning.
The U.S. government this week had warned South Africa of a possible attack in Sandton, where the march took place. It really seemed like the attack was directed at us, the LGBTQ+ community.
We are always fighting for the right to be treated fairly, the right to be seen and the right to exist sometimes . . . so having the march go on as planned just made me super happy.
It was bittersweet for me and bae . . . just because it was her mom’s birthday and we had a little celebration for her, and we couldn’t be in two places at the same time.
Just knowing we missed out sucked . . . but thanks to Twitter, I was able to see glimpes of what went down. Check out some of the tweets and the outfits.
