Our Staycation at Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre O.R. Tambo
In our quest to explore places that we think may be fun, one Sunday morning, we decided that we were going to try out the Radisson Hotel at OR Tambo.
The route to get to the hotel is not that great, so we were not sure what to expect, but we were super relieved to see the hotel is nothing like what you see when you are driving there. It definitely lived up to what we saw online, when we did our quick research.
We live in the East, so the drive was quick, and we got there around 2 pm, as check-in is about that time. It was a hot summer day, and we were eager to get inside their pool and just relax and cool down.
Radisson Hotel OR Tambo – First Impression
When we got to the security, we indicated that we had a reservation, and they did their security check and let us in. We found a parking spot, proceeded to the reception where we were assigned our room, then they showed us a different parking spot for overnight guests.
The security gentleman was very friendly, and assisted us with a big smile on his face. We also felt like we were in a safe space, and loved that there is secure underground parking at the premises.
The reception staff were very friendly and attentive, as well, and the check in process was seamlesss and pretty quick.
The hotel itself is beautiful, modern and very clean. At that point, we were super excited, and we definitely were looking forward to a relaxing mini getaway.
Radisson Hotel OR Tambo – Our Room
We actually wanted one of the rooms that had a tub in it, but our budget just wouldn’t allow it, so we settled for one without.
Our room was stylish, clean, spacious, and I learned later, very comfortable. The linen was crisp white and the bed was very comfortable. From our room, we had the beautiful view of the pool, which was great.
Our room didn’t have a bar/mini fridge, which was a bit of a let down. However, we were super prepared, as we had packed our cooler bag that had our favourite drinks, fruits and other nibbles. All we needed was a bag of ice, which we managed to buy from the shopping centre not far from the hotel.
Our room also had an ironing boardwhich was definitely an added bonus for us.
Radisson Hotel OR Tambo – The Food
Radisson Hotel OR Tambo has 2 restaurants onsite, one is their in-house restaurant that is on the same floor as the reception and the pool area and the second one is Level Seven Restaurant and Sky Bar, perfect for the bougee crowd and fine dining experiences.
By the time we had settled into our room, we were already hungry and decided to try their in-house restaurant on the ground floor. Bae ordered some chicken pasta, while I ordered a beef burger, and I must say we waited for our food for a very long time. I am unsure if that’s the norm, or if the restaurant was just swamped on that particular Sunday, but that was our experience.
The restaurant is right next to the pool area, and when our food finally came, we enjoyed it with the view of the pool. It was beautiful being outside, with the view of the pool, just enjoying our drinks.
We had breakfast the next morning, by the same area next to the pool. Radisson Hotel & Convention Center have a buffet style type of breakfast, and I must say, it was really good. They had everything, from fruit, cereals, cold meats, cheese, breads, sausages and so much more.
Breakfast was simply delicious!
Our Stay at Radisson Hotel at OR Tambo
For this staycation, we were really looking to relax and just unwind, and we were excited about doing just that and being in the water. The weather was amazing, and we were excited about being in their amazing pool, so of course bae had packed a few bathing suits and sunscreen . . . because well content and some fun!
So after breakfast, the plan was to lounge around by the pool , while sipping on something nice.
I must say, we had a blast!
We hung out at the pool for a good few hours, while chatting away and fun was had!
Final Thoughts
We had a blast at Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre at OR Tambo! We needed a staycation that was close to the city, something relaxing and fun, and we got exactly that.
Their stuff was friendly, attentive and were willing to assist . . . and the place itself was clean, modern and beautiful.
We felt extremely safe while there as well . . . overall, a beautiful experience.
We would definitely recommend this place!
Level Seven Restaurant and Sky bar is loading, and of course we still need to experience one of their rooms that has a tub!
