Molitva Orthodox Mediterranean Restaurant, Cradle of Humankind
Molitva Orthodox Mediterranean Restaurant is located in the beautiful and breathtaking Cradle of Human Kind, in Krugersdorp and it’s a restaurant that we have been meaning to try out since it opened late last year.
We just recently celebrated our 2 years anniversary and we felt we deserved a short mid-week getaway. After a short search we both agreed on The Cradle of Humankind area. Now, there was absolutely no way we were going to be in that area and not sample Molitva restaurant…which we did.
Molitva Restautant: First Impression
The moment we drove in, we immediately fell in love with the place. It is so scenic with trees and large stretches of grass. We enjoy places like those as we leave in the city and when you get an opportunity to dine away from the city, we feel refreshed, and of course the air just hits differently. Our first point of contact was the security guard who directed us to the parking lot. The walk to the restaurant is beautiful, but please try not to wear stilettos as it is basically gravel.
As soon as we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted politely and ushered to our table. The waiter introduced himself and proceeded to bring the menu to us “A large hand written chalk board” which we think is really cool. I ordered a mojito & Xihla asked for a recommendation “as usual” from the waiter. I was very happy with my drink, unfortunately Xihla did not like what the waiter recommended at all. The manager came to check on us and we mentioned we were not enjoying the one drink, he just replaced it with another cocktail. This was a big plus as not many establishments are willing to do this.
Molitva Restaurant : The Food
We ordered their 1kg pork ribs which were on special for R150 with fries, and we were still pondering on what do order next. The presentation for the ribs was acceptable, however we both did not enjoy the food at all. The portions were amazing, however the ribs just didn’t seem fresh at all.
Like we always do, we decided to share the ribs so we both experience them, just like we would do with the second meal. But because of our experience with the ribs, we decided to not order the 2nd meal, as we didn’t want to be disappointed again.
We did the restaurant during the week, and the restaurant was pretty much empty. . . maybe that was the reason why the ribs were not good. We had read such great reviews and fell in love with the place, so that part of the experience was disappointing, to say the least.
Molitva Restaurant: Final Thoughts
Molitva Restaurant has stellar service, breath-taking and scenic views and overall we enjoyed the establishment with its great vibes.
Our experience with the food was not that great (we went there during the week, which might have had something to do with it as it was pretty empty), we do however plan on trying something different the next time we visit them.
This time, we plan on going there on a Saturday/Sunday, when it will be bursting with people and activity, and we will be shying away from the ribs.
We would absolutely recommend it should you be in the area. . . and we are looking to experience it again, differently.
