Honor 70 Smartphone Review : The Best Vlogger Smartphone for 2022?

Review: Is the Honor 70 the Best Vloggling Smartphone?

We look at the Honor 70 Smartphone and break down its aesthetics and features to find out if it’s truly the phone that vloggers should be looking at getting.

The Honor 70 5G is now available in South Africa, and I am on a mission to uncover if it is the best Vlog phone. It has been marketed heavily that way as well.

“The Honor 70 is the ideal smartphone for today’s stylish social media generation who seek flagship-level photography and video capabilities and a fashionable and sleek design,” says Zhao Likun, CEO of Honor Middle East and Africa.

Below, I look at the essential elements of the device to find out if it rises to the demands of today’s video-first digital generation.

Unboxing the Honor 70 5G

The Honor 70 comes in a white box and in it is a fast charger (and a USB charging cable) that promises to charge the phone from 3% to 60% in just 20 minutes. There is also a transparent case for the phone, to make sure that your phone is protected from the get go, as well as a sim tray key and of course device literature.

The Honor 70 comes in four colours: “Icelandic Frost”, “Crystal Silver”,  “Midnight Black” and “Emerald Green”.

Honor 70: First impressions

Holding the smartphone in hand, the very first thing I noticed is that it is significantly lighter and smaller than what I am used to, having been a Samsung user for the past few years. It only has a thickness of just 7.91mm and it only weighs 178g ( the iPhone 13 Pro Max  weighs 238g and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 weighs 187g for example.

It also comes in a 6.67inch OLED screen with a minimal border around the display.

The Honor 70 Camera

The Honor 70 has a 54MP Sony IMX800 camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera . . .  and it is designed specifically for digital content creators and social media influencers whose daily lives involve taking video content, and of course cute pictures for their social media . . . like us!

When it comes to daytime photography, I am pleased to report that the Honor 70 produces beautiful images. The Sony IMX800 comes with a large f/1.9 aperture, meaning that it lets in more light, and delivers colorful, crisp and gorgoeus images.

When it comes to low-light photography, the Honor 70 still delivers amazing results. Low-light photos come out just as good, and having used the Honor 70 for just over 3 weeks, I am consistently surprised by the quality of images taken at night or in low lighting.

And when it comes to video content, the Honor 70 offers the first-ever Solo Cut Vlog mode. It can capture 4K video in 30fps, and this unique mode allows content creators to shoot their TikTok, IG Reels and Youtube Shorts content with Person Autofocus Tracking Technology, which ensures the spotlight remains resolutely on them in a group shot or any other subject with a tap of a finger. What is even more impressive, is that, when the person/object leaves and then returns to the frame, the focus is automatically applied because of the intelligent Person Re-Identification feature.

The Honor 70 also has the multi-video mode, as seen in the screenshot above, this feature alone opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to shooting video content.

First of, it can flip between front and rear camera recording with ease, or you can film with the front and rear cameras simultaneously; this can come in super handy if you vlog on the ground report-style. You can also capture in 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 4x speeds, which is great.

When it’s all said and done . . . the photography and videography capabilities of the Honor 70 are pretty impressive compared to its competition.

What I love About Honor 70

  • The battery life is excellent
  • The camera system is very impressive
  • Perfect for video bloggers
  • Gorgeous OLED screen
  • Great for productivity

What I didn’t like about this phone is the fact that storage is limited to what the phone comes with, there’s no space for a memory card.

So far. . . I am loving this phone and I can’t wait to uncover even more features. Content creation has become so much fun and it’s such a breeze!

Woud I recommend it? Absolutely YES!!
