A Hiking Trail at Modderfontein Reserve
Bae and I have picked up a new hobby: hiking at Modderfontein Reserve, and we are totally loving it. We are also actively looking for hiking trails especially in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and Modderfontein Reserve is one of our favourite places to hike right now. Also, it doesn’t hurt that it is situated where our favourite Sunday market is, the Fourways Farmers Market.
We have hiked a couple of times there, and ended up right at the market. The first time that we tried the market was post covid 19 restrictions, and like most people we were tired of being couped up in the house. Also, nothing feels better than being outdoors, getting your body moving and just being one with nature.
Hiking at Modderfontein Reserve comes with it’s perks, and I think that is the reason why we keep being drawn to it. After every single hike, we just feel so good, which proves just how great physical activity is for the body. The benefits of physical activity have been documented for decades, and it’s beautiful to be able to enjoy those benefits with each hike that we do.
Hiking is a fun way for weight management. We can’t all be great and disciplined at going to the gym or going cycling or going for a run, some of us prefer less rigid and low impact exercises like hiking. I love how chilled it can be, and hiking in nature is a surefire way to take in the beauty that is Modderfontein Reserve. Being one with nature allows you to do something that is much needed for the body, in a fun and beautiful way.

For us, and the fact that we are constantly on social media because of work, it’s an amazing way to unplug and get that time away from social media and its toxicity. Life can be super fast paced, and with social media taking over some of our lives, it has become the norm for most people ( like us) to spend hours a day on it. Not only does it impact our health negatively, it also chips away at the kind of day that you can have.
I find hiking super therapeutic and an excellent way to spend quality time with the person you love, or with friends and family. I can’t even mention the conversations that we have had on those Modderfontein Reserve Hiking Trails, or how we would stop and marvel at the waterfall, or beautiful streams of water or many other things. We tend to have meaningful conversations and really hear and listen to each other, which is beautiful.
And of course it wouldn’t be hiking if it didn’t clear your mind and reduced your stress levels.
There are so many benefits to hiking, when we skip certain Sundays without going, we literally feel like we have let ourselves down, and it’s something that we definitely we would to do more of and explore other hiking trails.
