A Day at the Fourways Farmers Market

A Visit to Fourways Farmers Market At Modderfontein Reserve

The Fourways Farmers Market is one of the popular things to do in Johannesburg especially for a Sunday afternoon,  from families spending the afternoon there, to friends catching up or even a day out for lovers. The Fourways Farmers Market moved from Fourways to Modderfontein Reserve, where it is located now, which is about 10 minutes from Sandton.

It had to move to the Modderfontein Reserve, because it became extremely popular, and the owner had to find a bigger space to accommodate everyone who wanted to have that experience. Who can resist a Sunday out at the market, outdoors with beautiful food, beautiful people and just beautiful ambience?

The Modderfontein Reserve is the perfect space! Not only is the space vast, it is also really beautiful. So one Sunday, bae and I decided to check it out, and since then, we have been there a few times, and that’s part of the reason I decided to share this blog entry.

Our Time at Fourways Farmers Market

The first time we went the market, we decided to do a hike  . . . which was very nice. There’s a 5 km hike and a 11 km one, we did the 5 km one, just to test it. We also did the 11 km one on a different day, and it’s almost like we bit more than we could chew, so we decided we will stick to the 5 km one.

This particular time, we decided to just go to the market, to get out of the house, be outdoors and just relax. It took us about 20 minutes from where we live, and we wanted to get there early, so we could choose the best table.

This decision to go early was actually a good one, because the market gets really packed, which can make it difficult to get a table. And I find it a little weird having to share a table with people I don’t know.

It’s R10 to get into the market, and once you are inside, there is a lot that you can do.

There are 2 parts of the market that serves different crowds, the first one is the space you see when you first enter the market, where is a space for moms and kids . . .  basically families. And then there’s the other space for the hip crowd, with music and a dope vibe.

Food & Drinks at Fourways Farmes Market

Our primary thing was just to relax, eat good food and have a few sips. And so, once we got in around 12, we walked around to try and find something to eat. What we realised was that there are soo many options to choose from, which is amazing!

So we tried wings, the chilli burgers, the tramezzine, the ribs, dim sum and we even tried the seafood platter. Some of the foods were a hit, and others were quite a miss, like the seafood platter.

We got our drinks as well, and settled at our table.

The weather was beautiful and sunny, the vibe was amazing and more people started coming into the market . . . and yes the decision to get there early was awesome for us because we chose the table that we wanted before it got packed.

Is the Fourways Farmers Market Worth the Hype?

For us, it absolutely was!

It was a beautiful day out, exactly what we needed to ease us into the week ahead, in a vibrant, scenic and hip space.

Really enjoyed the outdoors, for a lazy Sunday and the ambience was beautiful and very relaxing.
