Driven: The New Isuzu MUX 3.0 ddi 4×4 Onyx A/T

My Experience Driving the New Isuzu MUX 3.0 ddi 4×4 Onyx A/T

We had the honour of driving the new Isuzu MUX 3,0 TD Onyx 4×4 to Mozambique Bilene, giving us ample time to feel the car, experience it’s features and what it’s really like to drive it for hours on the road.

Power and Drive: Isuzu MU-X 3,0 TD Onyx 4×4

Our trip to Bilene in Mozambique required hours of driving, we left Johannesburg at 05h00 in the morning and only got to Mozambique around 18h00 at night, so we needed a comfortable ride that was safe and enjoyable. The Isuzu MUX gave us exactly that!

The MUX SUV comes in a 3,0 litre turbodiesel engine. The ride was smooth, and and very comfortable. and off road did not disappoint either, this was made possible by the coil springs that it has on its suspension, making bumps super comfortable.

The seats also made the drive very comfortable, especially the front seats, due to the fact that they are electrically adjustable . This SUV is a true seven-seater, and the third row is spacious enough to accommodate 2 adults. And as for air conditioning, there are air-conditioning vents for all three rows, and with this heat, the aircon came in very handy.

Fuel consumption was 9.6l/100km which we found to be a bit on the steep side than expected.

The steering felt light and sturdy, even at high speeds of 120km/hr which was a definite plus for me!

We had the Red Spinel MUX ONYX  . . . with it’s 20 inch alloy wheels!

On the outside, this Isuzu MUX Onyx SUV looks beautiful . . . it became very obvious from the looks that we were getting from other drivers on the road and just everyone that we came across. It’s fancy and modern, but do not let the looks fool you.

When you are behind the wheel, it is every bit the SUV that is needed to tackle any terrain, perfect for any on and off-road drive, as proven by our many hours on the road.

This SUV also has the arrow-shaped Bi-LED headlamps with Daytime Running Lights  and LED taillamps, which adds to the  modern look of the SUV.

Interior: Isuzu MU-X 3,0 TD Onyx 4×4

The new Isuzu MUX is a 7 seater, and it has enough room to have the occupants in the SUV comfortable.  The three rows are coming in larger and roomier, which makes every trip taken comfortable.

This SUV also boasts adjustable faux leather seats with beautiful stitching, and for entertaiment, it comes with a 9,0-inch infotainment system that allows you to pair your iphone or android device.

It also has a multi-information display (MID) which includes your drive mode, fuel economy & consumption, trip and lane assist which I really enjoyed.

Key Features: Isuzu MU-X 3,0 TD Onyx 4×4

The features that the Isuzu MUX Onyx boasts are what made our 12 hour trip to Mozambique comfortable, and enjoyable, despite the hours of driving.

As a driver who will be doing hours on the road , there are certain features in a car that will make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable. I loved the park distance control, ABS brakes, the stability control and I especially loved the lane keeping assist which was a first that I experienced in an SUV.

Safety Features

I loved the safety features that came with the MUX Onyx . . . it really put me and my partner at ease. The MUX comes with 8 airbags, which includes the centre airbag, located on the left side of the driver.

It also has the Isuzu Intelligent Driver Assistance System, which is a big plus for any driver who takes safety seriously. These include forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, autonomous emergency brake, lane departure warning  . . . to mention just a few. This gave me peace of mind and more confidence in driving the car for such a long distance, knowing that we are driving an SUV that makes safety a priority.

Final Thoughts

The Isuzu MUX Onyx is a great SUV, and as travellers that explore different parts of South Africa at any given time with different terrains, it is definitely an SUV that has has everything we need.

One thing that I have always appreciated about Isuzu, is how they focus on quality and how the SUV’s and bakkies are built to last. For as long as I can remember, my dad has always driven an Isuzu bakkie, and even to this day, he still enjoys the reliability that comes with them.

The Isuzu MUX Onyx is a great SUV, that is very capable, safe and comfortable to do what you need it to do! After driving to Mozambique Bilene and back, it get’s a huge thumbs up from us!
